Congress has adjourned for its August recess, but before Members of Congress left Washington, D.C., they engaged in a flurry of lawmaking.
Last week, the House passed a defense spending bill for fiscal year 2008, which begins on October 1st. If passed into law, H.R. 3222, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2008 will cost the average U.S. family a little over $4,600! Another bill passed by Congress last week, H.R. 3311, will spend $250,000,000 on repair of the I-35 bridge in Minneapolis. This amounts to about $130,000 per foot of bridge!
This session, Congress has already proposed to raise taxes on capital, foreign investment, energy production and even cigarettes and cigars! Instead of finding ways to reduce the size of government by ending wasteful programs and cutting out the pork, the Democrat-led Congress continues leading us down the road to bigger and bigger government. The American people are already over-burdened with taxation, and enough is enough!
During the August Recess, it is important that advocates of liberty take time out of their busy lives to write, call and visit with their elected officials to remind them who they work for.
ACTION: Please contact our elected officials and tell them to stop the tax hikes now! A pre-written letter is on the Freedom Works web site at:
