Sex offender and convicted of manslaughter, wants your vote!

A Delta school board candidate says he still plans to run for office after an anonymous letter to the district revealed he was a registered sex offender.

The case was marginal against him at the time, he said. It was overblown because at the time he was on parole for first-degree manslaughter after he set a fire at a halfway house that killed two women in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1977, he said.

Wow! The type of people drawn into politics never ceases to amaze me.

Government steals cars from men trying to pick up women

Eighteen men were arrested this week on suspicion of soliciting a prostitute during a "sting" on West Colfax Avenue in Denver.

The suspects ranged in age from 21 to 65, said Sonny Jackson, a Denver police spokesman.

The operation, conducted Wednesday by the police department's vice team using an undercover officer, spanned a five-hour period.

Police impounded 18 vehicles of suspects as part of the investigation, Jackson said.

What is the justification for the impounding of the cars? They cannot claim that the cars were purchased with money earned from being a solicitor of prostitutes. I am sure they will say the car was used in “the commission of a crime”. However how can asking a person if they are willing to have sex with you be a crime? The sex never happened and the only money or property changing hands was the theft the government perpetrated on these men.

Medical Marijuana returned!

A small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was returned by Jefferson County authorities today to a medical marijuana caregiver who was issued a summons at Mount Falcon Park earlier this year.

"What we would like to see is police and prosecutors simply not bring these charges and not cite individuals who are indeed state licensed to possess and cultivate marijuana," Vicente said.

This is good news, but it would have been better if was never even an issue. There was no reason to put these people through a 6 month ordeal.

"It's the law" now follow it bureaucrats!

A watchdog group filed a complaint with the Colorado Secretary of State on Tuesday, saying three incumbents in the Broomfield City Council had a city staffer fill out candidate questionnaires for them.
That is a violation of the Fair Campaign Practices Law, said said Chantell Taylor, director of Ethics Watch, a non-profit that aims to hold Colorado officials accountable to the law.

It is funny when the bureaucrats cannot even follow their own rules. Normally I am not a stickler for following the letter of "the law" if it is a petty law, but I will make an exception for these people.

Another day another scandal

Millions of dollars were incorrectly entered into budget ledgers while the college president used her office to work another job, send out personal gifts, and cover her husband's cell phone use.
Those are among the allegations, major and minor, released Tuesday against former Community College of Denver President Christine Johnson and management of the school.

Accounting errors, allegations of misuse of funds, just another day in the land of the bureaucrats. At least she is no longer the school president.

Trademark "Rocktober"?

"Rocktober," the new shorthand for the Colorado Rockies' amazing playoff run, is showing up everywhere from newspaper headlines to handmade ballpark signs.
But now the team wants a trademark to keep anyone else from selling keepsakes bearing the word.

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_5726816,00.html

I have seen this term for years in reference to musical acts, promotions, and tours. It is not a phrase that should be allowed to be copyrighted. In fact the copyrighting of a common use phrase only hampers creativity and impedes the market for new products and ideas.

If the Rockies win, so will the money grubbing socialists?

The Rockies maiden voyage to the World Series seems to have lifted the mood and spirit of a city.
But will the excitement make Denver property owners more likely to increase their taxes next month?

At least one local pollster and Denver Councilman Charlie Brown, who has run 20 or more political campaigns, think it could.

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_5727183,00.html

Are they trying to turn us against the Rockies? I think it is disgusting that the bureaucrats hope to capitalize on the Rockies winning streak by pushing through a tax increase.

Ritter proposes refunds, when the driver's license bureaucrats fail

Ritter is considering a proposal to offer residents discounts - or full rebates - on their driver's license if state workers don't deliver on time.

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_5727337,00.html

I have an even better idea. Eliminate the requirement to ever renew your driver’s license. Once you have proven yourself capable of driving safely, I can see no valid reason for the need to renew it. It is not as if your driving skills are likely to decline until you are very elderly. If the concern is for identification then that should be addressed separately from the ability to drive.
