Inappropriate question lands guy in jail

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. — A Fruita man is free on $7,500 bond after police say he solicited a child for prostitution.

Larry Dean Davis, 45, was arrested and jailed Friday. He was released Sunday.

Officer Bob Bomar says police began investigating Davis in January after they received a call from the father of the alleged victim.

So it sounds like this guys “crime” was asking someone if they wanted to trade sex for money. Not that the trade ever happened, not that he tried to coerce anyone. He made an offer that was refused. I will let you all decide if you think asking someone an inappropriate question should be a crime, but it is something we should think about. Should approaching someone with an offer of drugs or sex, be a crime? Should it only be a crime if the person you ask is under 18? Should it always be a crime? If it is always a crime, should we allow police to do it without penalties in order to catch those people who say yes to the offer?
