"We are prosecuting kids for kissing"

"It's just getting to the point of ridiculousness where we're prosecuting kids for kissing," Councilman Doug Linkhart, who chairs the Safety Committee, said after the meeting.

Much of Wednesday's discussion involved issues of sexual harassment. Among the examples cited Wednesday was a referral to Human Services for two 5-year-olds who were kissing. In another case, one 6-year-old said to another 6-year-old, "You have a sexy booty."

The charges are silly, but the real problem is the bureaucracy that encourages teachers, social workers, and the DA to not use any judgment and report and prosecute every little thing they see, whether it is two kids kissing or someone drawing a picture of a gun. They are training the common sense out of these teachers, by having the DA say things like “every sexual impropriety is a potential crime and should be investigated”. I can understand the bureaucrats desire to provide a safe environment for the students, but when the standards are so ridiculous and vague it only leads to more problems.
