The Colorado State Board of Education has approved a plan to cut soda and other sugary drinks from school vending machines and cafeterias.
I don’t think that there is a clear libertarian position on this, but every dollar they lose from selling soda on a voluntary basis is probably one more dollar they will want to recoup from tax payers involuntarily.
I have pretty much given up debating the trivial things done by state run education. It's about like moving furniture around on the Titanic. Of course, there is an optimal way to run a school and then there is the American way with unions, huge administrative costs, and usually a partial or total lack of choice.
With science (Bill Gates Foundation has done a lot of research on this) discovering better ways to educate we still are up against an immovable force. Why? Perhaps to protect jobs and pensions, but what suffers, year after year are the schools. Then, by default our communities.
Education is a critical factor for a nations future. It is like the steering wheel, or rudder that directs us to the next generation of leaders and followers.
What do you see out there now?
What choices are the nation on the whole making?
Where does this lead us?
I gave up soda because it is doggone bad for you. I wish I could give up state run education.
After all, in a free country, who decides?
Thanks,
Scottie L
