"One clue that the drug industry is still satisfied with its arrangement with the White House is the fact that it has agreed to bankroll the president’s plan with $150 million in advertising.
As the New York Times pointed out Sunday, "By comparison, President Obama’s presidential campaign spent about $236 million on television commercials while the campaign of the Republican candidate, Senator John McCain of Arizona, spent about $126 million. Few expect the opponents of the health care overhaul to muster as much advertising muscle as its backers, including sympathetic business groups, labor unions and ideological allies. The drug makers stand to gain millions of new customers from the expansion of health care coverage."
Since the prospect of someone like George W. Bush managing our health care isn't enough to end the debate over benevolent dictators managing health care, those who advocate Universal Healthcare should ask themselves who stands to benefit the most? Because it won't be the patient. Why is big Pharma FOR Obamacare? Why are insurance corporations supporting the nationalization of health care?
Democrats and Republicans work for Big Pharma. They brought us HMO's. They have corporatized health care from A to Z. But as R's and D's have proven over and over again; No long time opponent will be denied a bailout once they have been propped up then broken down and are begging for mercy. Because not only do R's and D's break it, they fix it too!
The day the drug war is over is the day I'll even consider advocating government monopolized health care. Those who run the DEA should not be allowed to run health care. Not only does Big Pharma get a monopoly, they get our soldiers to enforce that monopoly. Like our "choice" of Obama or McCain, we get to choose to use their product or go to prison. My way or the highway, but you're free to choose!
