Marriage is not a right, it’s a privilege. That is where we differ. Let’s not digress down a path that is quite irrelevant to the priorities of our day. I have stated clearly that social issues are not the issues of our day. Our economy and fiscal conservatism is what is important right now. Please do not assume I will act like other career politicians, either R or D. I am Dan Maes, no one else. I am a business person, not a politician.
Let’s focus on what we have in common.
Re-Energizing Colorado's Economy
Republican Candidate for Governor
This is an example of how Democrats and Republicans are a false dichotomy. Both believe that marriage is a "privilege" granted by the State through issuance of a license. They only disagree over who should be issued a marriage license! In true contrast, Libertarians believe that marriage is a "human right", and that the state has no authority to infringe upon this right by requiring any couple to first obtain "permission" (a license).
