volunteers needed - LAKEWOOD GROCERY TAX ELIMINATION

Petition Drive - volunteers needed
LAKEWOOD GROCERY TAX ELIMINATION

Looking for limited-government, low-tax advocates to get Lakewood registered voter signatures to eliminate the sales tax on groceries. If you work in Lakewood or own a business, this is another great way to get signatures. You don't have to live in Lakewood to circulate the petition.

Going door to door is very successful and it's refreshing to hear over and over "I'll sign, anything for lower taxes. Thanks for doing what you're doing."'

We're holding petition drives in neighborhoods and at grocery stores. The goal is 10,000 signatures by June 15th. 200 people getting 50 signatures each, gets this on the November ballot.

If you'd like to help, contact:
Natalie Menten 303-980-8834 or 303-489-2895,
Charley Able 303-233-7275
or email NOgrocerytax@wmconnect.com
A petition can be mailed or delivered to you.

Constitution Day (Sept. 17)

Activists needed

The Liberty Day Organization has asked if any Libertarian activists / affiliates would like to adopt/sponsor a class(s) of students for Constitution Day (visit: http://www.libertyday.org/Events/ConstitutionDay2006/Constitution%20Day%202006.htm). The cost for the materials is $2 per student.  This covers the cost of 1 Liberty Day book, containing only the Declaration of Independence and US Constitution, AND one set of 24 Q&A's, which are facts taken directly out of the text of the US Constitution, for the students to study and learn.  Libertarians would need to work with educators to make sure that the students indeed have learned, and understood, the answer to the questions.

The Liberty Day organization emphasizes that this should be done in a NON-partisan way. Libertarians should go to their local schools as concerned and involved citizens WITHOUT a political agenda. The Liberty Day organization does not want to politicize this educational effort.

Interested people would need to go to their local educators to set this up and contact the Liberty Day organization for materials. For more information, please contact:

LTE promotion : Pro-choice candidate

Pro-choice candidate
Re: "No choice," June 10 letter to the editor.

Lori Colina-Lee bemoans the lack of a pro-choice candidate on the gubernatorial ballot. I hope she'll be pleased to find out that there actually is one: Dawn Winkler, who will be on the ballot in November on the Libertarian Party ticket.

Since, in a Democratic candidate, an "anti-choice" position is more likely to be a real conviction rather than a party-pleasing affectation, I would urge all those truly concerned with this issue to vote for Winkler.

Future of the party

This is not Colorado related, like most of the posts here, but this article tackles the question of why if 16-30% of all people are libertarian according to the Nolan chart, why is there less than 100,000 members of the libertarian party. It is something to consider.

LTE Promotion: Tired of corruption? Vote for Libertarians

Tired of corruption? Vote for Libertarians
It should not surprise anyone, as it surely does not surprise the two main political parties' representatives in Congress, that big money is attracted to big government's (extended) powers. Our representatives sell favorable legislation to cronies, highest bidders and appetizing voting blocs. The Constitution was to ensure that our government, property and liberties were not saleable items. The Republicans and Democrats have been the gatekeepers of our government and have been selling us out for years.

Representatives are consistently voted back into office despite their overstepping of these legal restraints. The courts, despite knowledge that we are a constitutional republic designed to protect the individual from the tyranny of the majority, the wealthy and the unified, have allowed representatives to do so through legislation. Our government was expected to protect citizens from force and fraud, not to initiate force against its citizens.

If you prefer to get big money corruption out of American politics, reassert the limits on federal government powers by voting for Libertarian candidates who understand the appropriate functions of government and do not sell government power and citizens' rights to those willing to buy it. What special interests, other than self-ownership, nonaggression and liberty, are going to buy that?

Badnarik on KNRC

Michael Badnarik will be on the Alan Colmes show tomorrow night June 15th on Denver radio station KNRC 1150 http://www.knrcradio.com (for streaming) show airs from midnight to 2 am. Alan Colmes is a liberal and is on 10 radio stations, so we will see how Michael does against a liberal. It should be fun. Also in case you didn't know the Lionel show is right before Alan Colmes on KNRC and he is a libertarian, although his show tends to talk more about pop culture than politics.
