HB 1006 Killed in Committee!
Last week the Libertarian Party of Colorado (LPCO) issued a Press release opposing HB 1006. Later that week, LPCO State Chair, Travis Nicks appeared on TV and radio opposing HB 1006. LPCO Legislative Director, Richard Randall also appeared on radio.
Tuesday, amid TV cameras and newspaper reporters, Richard Randall testified before the house "Transportation and Energy Committee" re-iterating the Libertarian Party's opposition to HB 1006 with specific points. After all of the testimony was heard, the committee voted 10-3 against the bill. Randall was quoted in several major newspapers:

Thank you Mr. Nicks and Mr. Randall for pushing back the police state and saving all Coloradans an untold number of their hard-earned dollars. Just say no to the Democratic Police State.
I'm particularly vexed at the RM News article putting their spin on "Inattentive drivers luck out" and offering these stats;
"25% of accidents are estimated to be caused by distracted drivers.*
38 states proposed laws against inattentive driving in 2006.
8 states enacted laws last year.*Source: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration"
And if a police officer sees someone swerving, speeding, or committing a violation due to distracted driving, said officer will issue a citation for the violation. The 25% of accidents estimated to be caused by "distracted driving" were actually caused by an existing violation, and the driver was cited for that violation.
"Libertarian Party official Richard Randall called the bill "nanny statist" and a "paternalistic absurdity,"". You tell 'em Rick!
