Lawmakers Debate Eliminating the business personal property tax

As state lawmakers met Monday to discuss job creation, Republicans suggested doing away with a tax many small businesses find maddening.

But eliminating the business personal property tax — which applies to equipment, machinery and tools that businesses own — would deal a heavy blow to a number of small counties where the tax often funds a significant chunk of their budgets.
