Toy causes government to freak out and force the closure of two restaurants

A waiter found what was described as a hand-made grenade left at the table at Merle’s Restaurant on West Main Street around 6:30 p.m., said Littleton police.

When the bomb squad arrived, they evacuated Merle’s as well as the Opus Restaurant.

The bomb squad X-rayed the object but was unable to decide if it was dangerous. It was moved into a bomb disposal trailer and taken away.

Investigators now say they believe it as probably a child’s toy.
