I am not sure how many people who read this blog may have known Brian Travis. He and his family moved out of Colorado a few months ago to join the Free State Project in New Hampshire, but prior to that he had lived here for a long time (not exactly sure how long, but many years). With him being a libertarian, I would venture that some of you may have known him.
The government raided his home and stole 12 of his horses because he had not got some sort of New Hampshire required government paperwork completed for them. These horses were worth anywhere from $20,000-$50,000 each and his story is really sad and angering.
Here is the link to the interview in MP3 format:
Brian Travis had his horses taken away because they weren't being properly cared for, plain and simple. Those poor hourses had to endure the worst ice storm in NH history with no shelter what so ever, not to mention all of the other snow storms and below zero temps. Despite what he is saying, I have first hand knowledge that he was investigated 3 previous times by the SPCA before these horses were taken. The vet who was present to inspect the horses and is seen in the video also explained to him how serious the condition was for the horses. By the way Mr. Travis, it wasn't the vet, or the police, or the SPCA who was after you, it was the 268 complaints from your neighbors that were sick of seeing you treat beautiful animals like trash. Mr Travis is a shinning example of why NH doesn't need Free Staters. Go find an island to infest, you won't be missed!!!

If the condition of the horses was so bad why didn't the police take all of the horses? Why has he not been charged with animal abuse? If he had no shelter for the horses, why does he say that the roof of the shelter suffered some damage from the ice storm? And last but not least, why would he abuse an animal he paid thousands of dollars for, do you not think that he would want to preserve their value?
